It is a form of art and self-expression. You should get one if you have a piece that you would like to express yourself through it.

In modern times, tattoos are no longer limited to the symbol of rebellion or ‘prison art’, as some may believe in the past. Take a look around, there is more than enough evidence around on how common tattoos now are in whichever community you may come from.
Yet, it is still discriminated to a small extent, depending on how visible and the design of the tattoo. Generally, low visibility or easy on the eye common designs are now more well accepted by the public.
It is a form of expression and there is no limit that one has to cap themselves to just because the community is against it.

Tattoos on the arms and easily exposed areas such as the face and neck are ‘high visibility’ tattoos. Although the love and appreciation for the art does let you break some limits, do take into consideration of the aftereffects. Only get one if the risk is manageable and the appreciation for the art form is more than great. As Lee Anne Hurt Chesterfeld, curator at the Virginia museum of Fine Arts, once commented on tattoos: “If you look through art history, there’s always an art form that’s emerging that’s not as accepted.”

Still, the choice is yours.
Ultimately, tattoos will be experienced by the artist and those close to whom wore them. More than just beautiful designs, they’re reminders of the unique backstory that one has to tell the world through his/her skin. If you can look past the occasional glances from outsiders and those who cannot appreciate your art, then by all means.
